The mission of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is “To transform subsistence farming to commercial agriculture” with the vision of “A competitive, profitable and sustainable agricultural sector.”
To deliver on the two, the Ministry facilitates the development of agribusiness to:
- Increase production and productivity
- Increase household incomes
- Increase exports
- Increase capacity to create jobs both directly and indirectly
- Avoid influx of adulterated agro-inputs
The Ministry therefore invests in protection of agribusiness enterprises and on-farm activities from the adverse effects of pests and diseases and climate change through enhancing access to modern technologies for mechanization, critical farm inputs, post-harvest technologies, value addition, development of markets, extension services, research, model farms and exhibitions.
The Online Knowledge Bank of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is a flagship online product of the Ministry, developed in 2018 and aimed at providing guidelines for boosting compliance, agribusiness development and sustainable investment through online and media-based communication.
The structure was informed by the agribusiness value chain approach which is “from the farm to the final consumer” and contains vital information for users and consumers of agribusiness products.
