Opening tours of the 26th Source of the Nile National Agricultural Show in Jinja

Hundreds of stalls at the 26th Source of the Nile National Agriculture Show that will run up to the 22nd were toured by Hon. Vincent Bamulangaki Sempijja the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries joined by Hon. Christopher Kibanzanga the State Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Joy Kabatsi the State Minister for Animal Industry, Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and the leadership of the Uganda National Farmers Federation.

Hon. Sempijja thanked participants for the big turn up for this year’s edition to the show and welcomed more innovators and the general public to visit the Show Grounds to learn and share more in areas of income generation from agribusiness.

Hon. Joy Kabatsi the State Minister for Animal Industry toured the stalls of private sector and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries where she was received by Dr. Rose Ademun the Commissioner for Animal Health in the Directorate of Animal Resources.

The State Minister for Animal Industry was also handed the new strategic plan for the National Animal Genetics Resources Centre and Databank (NAGRC) by the Executive Director Dr. Charles Lagu at the NAGRC stall where various breeds are on display.

Hon. Christopher Kibanzanga the State Minister for Agriculture commended exhibitors for the increase in innovations that have been introduced by both public and private sector players to increase production and productivity.

The Source of the Nile National Agriculture Show is an annual flagship event in Uganda’s Agricultural Sector organised in partnership with the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE).

This year, the theme of the Show is” Fostering Agricultural Value Chains Innovation for Farmer-Led Food Security, Household Income and Job Creation. “

The Directorates at the Show include Directorate of Fisheries Resources, Directorate of Animal Resources, Directorate of Agricultural Extension Services and the Directorate of Crop Resources.

The Agencies include the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS), Cotton Development Organisation (CDO), Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), Dairy Development Authority (DDA), Coordinating Office for the Control of Trypanosomiasis in Uganda (COCTU) and the National Animal Genetics Resources Centre and Databank (NAGRC).
