“Developing a Market Oriented and Environmentally Sustainable Beef Meat Industry in Uganda” Project (MOBIP) granted an additional 15 months

“Developing a Market Oriented and Environmentally Sustainable Beef Meat Industry in Uganda” project (MOBIP) has been granted an additional 15 months. The official announcement of the extension was made during a Project Steering Committee meeting at the Aquaculture Research & Development Centre in Kajjansi on the 4th of November, 2021.

Ministry Top Policy was represented by Mr. Ronald Segawa Gyagenda on behalf of MAAIF Permanent Secretary Maj. Gen. David Kasura Kyomukama.

MOBIP is currently implementing a Multi-Annual operation Programme Estimate (MAPE) which is funded by the Government of Uganda and the 11th European Union Development Fund (EDF).

Below is an excerpt of the speech delivered on behalf of the Permanent Secretary by the Under Secretary.

It is our hope that in the near future we will be seeing the result of this partnership in:

  • An updated policy environment in which the sector operates
  • Robustness of systems for disease control, rangeland management, animal nutrition, water for livestock production and environmental care
  • An Animal identification and traceability system;
  • An increase in number of quality beef cattle produced by our small holder farmers within the project area
  • A model slaughter facility meeting national standards – located in Sanga Town, Kiruhura District.
  • Increased involvement of women and youth in the beef value chain
  • Improvements in the quality and safety of meat that is consumed
