MAAIF, PACEID to pursue joint export promotion strategies
During a meeting convened by MAAIF in collaboration with the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), the Ministry was represented by Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, the Permanent Secretary Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama and members of Top Policy Management to discuss strategies for boosting agricultural exports.
Seven resolutions were made during the export strategy meeting. The partners will act on
1/7: Formulation of National Food Safety Bill.
2/7: reviewing the National Seed Policy that will enable the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) to take charge of the quality seed value chain
3/7: Committed to undertaking National Soil Mapping
4/7: Finalizing all the Agriculture-related laws in the pipeline. These include the Animal Feeds Bill and the Animal Health Bill among others
5/7: Establishment of a National SST Committee whose secretariat will be housed at PACEID
6/7: Scaling up regional labs, research facility improvements
7/7: Earmarked resources for starting the Export Credit Fund
These resolutions will be worked on in collaboration with the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) which coordinates Ugandan exporters, producers, government institutions, and other stakeholders in export growth and industrial development.
